The Story

How MakeHaus began

MakeHaus started the way most good things do — with a late night, a YouTube rabbit hole, and a complete disregard for how messy crafting can get. What began as weekend experiments on the kitchen table became something bigger: a business, a studio, and hopefully a community of makers.

"I didn't plan to start a business. I just couldn't stop making things."

The resin work came first — coasters, trays, jewellery — all made with eco-friendly materials because it felt wrong to make beautiful things in ways that weren't. The workshops followed naturally. Turns out, people don't just want to own handmade things. They want to make them too.

The candles are the newest chapter. Specifically dessert candles — because why shouldn't a candle look like a slice of melktert or a freshly piped cupcake? It combines everything MakeHaus loves: colour, texture, craft, and a little bit of South African soul.

What We Stand For

The MakeHaus way

Three principles guide everything made and taught under the MakeHaus name.

🌿

Eco First

Every material choice is considered. We use eco-friendly resins, soy wax, and sustainable packaging because making beautiful things shouldn't come at the planet's expense.

Genuinely Handmade

No moulds run on repeat. No production line. Every piece is made by hand, one at a time, which means no two are ever identical. That's a feature, not a flaw.

📍

Rooted in Gqeberha

MakeHaus is proudly made in PE. The coast, the fynbos, the people — the Eastern Cape is in the work. Supporting local means buying from people, not platforms.

How It's Made

From raw material to finished piece

Every MakeHaus product follows the same four-step philosophy — no shortcuts, no compromises.

01

Source with Intention

Eco resins, soy wax, and sustainably sourced botanicals. Every ingredient is chosen for quality and environmental impact.

02

Design from Scratch

No templates. Each piece starts with a concept — a colour palette, a scent profile, a shape. The design drives the making.

03

Make by Hand

Mixed, poured, piped, cured, and finished entirely by hand. This is the slow part — and the most important part.

04

Finish with Care

Sanded, sealed, labelled, and packaged. Only pieces that meet the standard leave the studio.
